The third week of February should officially be deemed Letters in Motion Week. Why? you may ask. Because this week was filled to the brim with letter writing and fundraising!
Three years ago, my husband and I started Letters in Motion. Back then, we were barely together and just as much consumed with this non-profit as we were with each other-- probably more so!
Since then we have led three successful Letter Trips and delivered thousands of letters to children in Nepal and Kenya. Who knew it would catch on like this!
This week, we've had the help of both Cine Theatres in Martin, Tennessee and UTM Athletics at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Talk about generosity.
Cine Theatres graciously offered to donate 10% of their concession sales on one of the greatest movie attending nights of the year: Valentines Day.
We had a great group and lots of others attend who we didn't even expect. Altogether, we were able to make enough money to supply over 25 Literacy Packs for the kids in Nepal!
Inside the Literacy Pack they will find:
- pencil sharpener
- pencil pouch with zipper
- handwritten letter of encouragement

Thank you Cine Theatres for your contribution to the Letter Movement! We are very excited to deliver these packs to Nepal!!!
The very next day, UTM Athletics hosted the February Letter Writing Event for the UT Martin Letters in Motion Chapter. The event was absolutely amazing! hundreds of UTM athletes were in attendance, and altogether, 506 letters of encouragement were written for the children in Nepal.
Although our LinM team was in competition big crowds and a table covered in the yummiest cookies ever, we were able to accommodate everyone's questions and offer extra stickers and paper when tables ran out. I couldn't believe this team of volunteers. Everyone shared such a heart of service-- even a few of our brand new members were assisting people and helping with music! It was a beautiful sight. Several of us had to brush away tears at least once!! All for the letters. All for the kids.
